Books

I have recently finished reading Contemplative Youth Ministry. All I can say is what a book. It is the best book I have read on youth ministry and challenging and encouraging in equal measure. There has been a lot of posts around this book so I wont dwell on it but I think I need to read it again fairly soon and take some notes.

I am also just about to finish this book:

This really is great little book. It is a book of the love of Jesus and is gentle and sensitive around such a 'hot potato'. I think it is great and doesn't shy away from the difficult texts. I really recommend this one. This is has played a key part in my journey from blissful ignorance to avoidance to The Last Word, and The Word After That to this point. It has been a challenging and at times very difficult one. I feel as though there is some stuff I need to read to get a balance. Perhaps four views on hell'. I know not a very cheery subject but it has been important for me.

As a little aside I am listening to radiohead's 'The Bends' surely this is one of the greatest albums ever?

After meeting with my new mentor yesterday I returned with another book to read on a different subject (the atonement) that has been messing with my head over the past few years since a lecture whilst studying with Oasis Trust by Si Johnston (this was also around the time of Steve Chalke's now infamous book 'The Lost Message of Jesus'). We also picked it up with our theology lecturer Jeremy Thomson. Anyway returned home yesterday from our meeting clutching a copy of Christus Victor by Gustaf Aulen. I don't think I'll save this one for holiday reading.
