This weeks looking a bit manic as I gear up for our annual weekend away. We're off to Halls Green and I'm going through that mix of really looking forward to it with that there is so much left to do and the what have i not remembered question nagging in my brain.
I'm encouraged to be taking a good mix of young people from our friday night youth club. We are taking 18 young people which is really encouraging as it's the most we've had in my time here.
Anyway, back to the to do list,

An interesting piece from Ekklesia here about end times theology. Not something I claim to be an expert in but I tend to agree with her piece.
I've just come across the as yet to be released new single and video from one of my favourite bands Idlewild here. I'm loving the track and it seems to be a return to slightly harder rockier stuff but not quite as much as there first album where as a 16 year old I thought I was going to die in the mosh pit of the Camden Dingwalls (now Jonglers). I've followed Idlewild development and in the last 8/9 years and there journey and maturing of music and lyrics has in some way mirrored the mine.
It's was great to see lead singer Roddy Woomble last summer on his folk tour, but unfortunately I can't make the London Idlewild date. Well hey ho I'll just have to wait for the album.
We had a really nice little break over the weekend. It ended up being quite tiring as I ran from one activity to the next as well as sharing our villa with our nieces and nephews (3 under 4).
We had a great family meal in a revolving restaurant with a live pianist which was cool. I've added a set into my flickr set in the side bar as well as organising most of the photos in there now.
After a very mild Christmas in London we have had some more extreme weather over the last week.

Yesterday Jo had her first scan. The highlight was being told everything is going well closely followed by there's only one in there. We have endured various taunts about there being twins.
After Juan Mann's Free Hugs campaign in Australia attracted millions of hits on youtube the times newspaper have re-inacted the campaign in City of London's square mile. A male and female journalist both went out with the obligatory 'free hugs' signs. The article is in today's paper.

I've got a bit of time off over the next week. We're off to Centre Parcs on Friday for a long weekend with various bits of my family. I'm particularly looking forward to having a round of golf and my trip to the aqua sauna, nice!
I am proud to say that I haven't seen any of celebrity big brother. I do however follow the blog of comedian Dave Gorman. It appears that Dave was on one of the programmes about it sharing his view. I just had a look and even though I don't know many of the house mates i enjoyed as usual Dave's wit (and for people that have seen his previous work) and his graph/chart.
We went to see Dave Gorman's stage show of Googlewhack Adventure as well as some of his DVD's and books. He is a fantastic communicator who knows how to tell a story. I'm very jealous of his skill in this area.

I took this picture this morning as I walked to my first meeting of the day.
With the before mentioned vote taking place we took the opportunity to pop off south of the river to church.co.uk.
It was great to see their church and hear about there vision for the future. It was good to see my old pal Dave Steell and to hear Steve Chalke preach.
Steve was preaching the first in a new series called 'If good people do nothing.....'
Steve focussed on 'the breakdown of the family' and it was great to hear some teaching on a really down to earth and culturally relevant subject.
The series is based around the quote from Edmund Burke

Sunday saw a vote about my contract here in Winchmore Hill. The vote ended up with me being offered a years extension to my contract which I have decided to accept. It was really encouraging to hear that I still have the blessing of the church and I will be now be staying around until the summer of 2008.
It was good to have our local MP David Burrowes along to our youth club on Friday evening. He got involved and played football, table tennis and pool with a number of the young people.

I love this new idea for child sponsorship that Bart Campolo posts about here. It flips the whole idea on its head. I reminds me a bit of a project that Tony used to do when we were in Custom House at Ascension Church where he took local East London kids and rich kids from Felsted school on a sailing trip for a few days and got them interacting and working together.
